USMSM Names Dr. Dale Nesbary Executive Director

Leadership transition marks a new chapter for the University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland.

The University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland (USMSM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Dale Nesbary as Executive Director, transitioning from his role as Interim Executive Director.

The announcement, made August 10, marks an important milestone for USMSM as the organization continues to expand access to higher education, strengthen workforce development, and build partnerships that create educational and career opportunities throughout Southern Maryland.

Dr. Nesbary has served as Interim Executive Director during a period of continued growth and opportunity for USMSM. In his permanent role, he will continue to work with university partners, regional employers, community leaders, students, faculty, and other stakeholders to advance USMSM as a regional hub for higher education, workforce development, innovation, and economic opportunity.

As Executive Director, Dr. Dale Nesbary will focus on strengthening USMSM's relationships across the region while identifying new opportunities to connect students and professionals with education, career pathways, employers, and resources.

USMSM will continue its commitment to making higher education more accessible and attainable close to home while responding to the evolving needs of Southern Maryland's workforce and communities.

The community will have an opportunity to meet Dr. Nesbary in person at the upcoming USMSM Southern Maryland College & Career Pop-Up Open House on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the USMSM SMART Building.

The open house will bring students, families, working professionals, career seekers, employers, and community members together to explore educational and career opportunities available throughout the region.

Attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Explore the College, Career & Community Resource Fair and connect with colleges, universities, employers, community organizations, and resource providers.
  • Hear from regional leaders during the leadership panel and gain insights into the future of education, workforce development, and Southern Maryland.
  • Participate in industry and career panels featuring professionals who share real-world perspectives, industry trends, and insights into what students and professionals need to stand out in today's workforce.
  • Build connections through networking opportunities with educators, employers, community leaders, students, and fellow attendees.
  • Enjoy Zumba and interactive activities designed to bring energy, engagement, and community to the day.
